Paper vs synthetic labels: choosing the right material
Paper or synthetic is the first fork in every label decision, and the wrong pick either wastes money or fails in the field. Here is the two-minute version.
Paper: the default, for a reason
Cheapest per label, prints beautifully, and for dry indoor use (cartons, shelves, office assets) there is no reason to pay more. Semi-gloss paper adds a retail-friendly finish.
Synthetic: when the label has to survive
Polypropylene and polyester stocks shrug off water, oils, freezers and sunlight. Chillers, outdoor assets, chemical drums, marine and horticulture all live here. Pair with a resin ribbon or the toughness is wasted.
The test that settles it
Ask: will this label get wet, cold, greasy or handled hard? No: paper. Yes: synthetic, and tell us the environment so we match the adhesive too, because freezer adhesive and standard acrylic are very different animals.
Request a sample pack and test both in your actual environment.
